The Nordic Welfare Centre – Economic estimations and evaluations in public health

The project has been initiated and is led by the Nordic Welfare Centre. The aim is to gather a knowledge base and share good examples of how economic estimations are carried out in the Nordic countries in the field of public health. The project will also highlight implemented preventive public health interventions and analyse the overall body of knowledge and experience derived from these efforts.

The goal of the project is to support Nordic authorities in their work of developing and prioritising preventive public health initiatives.

IHE is responsible for carrying out the mappings and will, together with the Nordic Welfare Centre, produce two reports based on the project’s findings. The first report focuses on methods and models for economic estimations of modifiable risk factors for non-communicable diseases in the Nordic countries. The second report addresses health economic evaluations of preventive and health-promoting interventions implemented in the Nordic region in recent years.

A reference group is also affiliated with the project, consisting of experts with experience in health economic estimations and evaluations of preventive public health interventions in the Nordic countries.
The project commenced in January 2026, and the reports will be published in spring 2027.
