IHE at Bonnier Business Forum event in Finland

IHE joined the Hyvinvointi investointina (Wellbeing as an investment) event in Helsinki on April 23 to discuss how we can turn health into a driver of both wellbeing and economic sustainability.

Thomas Hofmarcher took the example of cancer and offered the following key takeaways:

• Innovation is essential – progress in cancer outcomes is driven by advances across the entire care pathway, from prevention and early detection to diagnosis and treatment.
• Investments are paying off – while spending on cancer care has increased, it has led to better survival and reduced productivity losses.
• No uncontrolled cost explosion – the overall economic burden per patient has remained relatively stable despite significant innovation.
• Value matters more than volume – higher spending can improve outcomes, but efficiency and smart allocation are critical.
