Best thesis in health economics

The Swedish Institute for Health Economics (IHE) and the Bengt Jönsson Foundation for Health Economics Research are hereby pleased to announce the recipient of the scholarship for this year’s student thesis in health economics.

Recipient of this year’s scholarship is Thomas Lane for his thesis “Do Price Increases Actually Prevent Generic Pharmaceutical Supply Issues Like Shortages and Market Withdrawals?” presented at KI, Karolinska Institutet.

The assessment committee has consisted of Professor Peter Lindgren, Associate Professor Katarina Steen Carlsson and Professor Linus Jönsson. The decision has been taken by the Board of the Bengt Jönsson Foundation for Health Economic Research.

Honorable mention

Erik Björk “Physician Behavior in Private and Public Primary Care. Evidence from a Within-Physician Design in Sweden”. Presented at University of Lund, spring semester 2026.

and

Johanna Bergman och Anna Nelson “Patient Choice Reform and Wage Effects in Swedish Primary Care: Evidence on nurse wages from a competition-based reform”. Presented at University of Lund, spring semester 2026.

Both theses analyze, in different ways, the healthcare sector as an employer and how systemic factors affect healthcare professionals. Both address current issues in health economics, analyze data using rigorous methods, and discuss their findings in an informed manner.

The assessment committee has consisted of Professor Peter Lindgren, Associate Professor Katarina Steen Carlsson and Professor Linus Jönsson.

The nomination period for the scholarship expired on June 30, 2026

The Swedish Institute for Health Economics and the Bengt Jönsson Foundation for Health Economics Research are pleased to announce a scholarship of 50,000 SEK awarded to the best bachelor’s or master’s thesis in health economics for the academic year 2025/2026.

Please submit the thesis (in PDF format) together with a nomination letter no later than June 30th, 2026. Supervisors, examiners, and students are all welcome to submit nominations for the scholarship.
