IHE discusses the future of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan

IHE participated in the 6th edition of the European Cancer Forum in Brussels. Thomas Hofmarcher participated in a panel discussion on the “Quality of Life” pillar of the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. Of all four pillars, this pillar has received the least attention and EU-funded research projects. Is this because we don’t really know how to define and measure quality of life or because it is difficult to monitor it over time among cancer survivors? What aspects that contribute to quality of life, such as the impact of cancer on one’s working life and the need for informal care, should be included in health economic evaluations of new technologies? Should one’s medical history be taken into account when taking out a mortgage or life insurance? This and much more was raised during the debate.

IHE has extensive experience in these topics. Examples of previous publications:

Measuring the end-of-life premium in cancer using individual ex ante willingness to pay

Standardized Questionnaire for the Measurement, Valuation, and Estimation of Costs of Informal Care Based on the Opportunity Cost and Proxy Good Method

Tackling inequalities in cancer care in the European Union
