IHE presents at event in the Slovenian Parliament
Europa Donna Slovenija organized an event in the Slovenian Parliament building to commemorate World Cancer Day. The discussion focused on the comparison of cancer care in Slovenia with other European countries and on the search for concrete and immediate solutions to improve the accessibility, efficiency, and long-term sustainability of the system. Special emphasis was placed on the participation of key stakeholders and the role of health policy in introducing systemic changes.
Thomas Hofmarcher provided an overview of the Slovenia-specific findings of the Cancer Comparator Report in Europe. He pointed out that Slovenia still allocates less funds per capita to cancer care than the EU average but uses them relatively effectively. Slovenia is excellent in the field of screening programs. The five-year survival rate of patients is gradually improving, but it still lags behind the Scandinavian countries, which clearly shows room for improvement. Smart targeting of funding remains a key challenge.
