IHE report on productivity loss due to vasomotor symptoms during menopausal transition
New IHE report on the productivity loss of moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms (VMS) for women during menopause in the Nordic countries. Menopause is a biological process which occurs for all women and it marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years. It was estimated that on average, 95 to 165 working hours are missed annually per woman due to absenteeism (sick leave) or presenteeism (work impairment) caused by VMS, corresponding to a productivity loss of €4,600 to €8,700, depending on the country. In total for all Nordic countries, the annual population costs were estimated to approximately €865 million. Presenteeism accounts for the larger share of these costs.
