Health-related quality of life in patients with palmoplantar pustulosis – a Swedish register study

Norlin JM, Löfvendahl S, Schmitt-Egenolf M

A new Swedish study from IHE reports on health-related quality (HRQoL) of life in people afflicted by palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP). Real-world data on HRQoL in palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) are scarce and few studies have analysed the generic HRQoL.

Using data from the Swedish National Register for Systemic Treatment of Psoriasis (PsoReg), IHE researchers examined HRQoL among people with PPP compared to HRQoL in people with the more common type of psoriasis, plaque psoriasis. HRQoL was measured using two different quality of life instruments (EuroQol-5 Dimensions [EQ-5D] and Dermatology Life Quality Index [DLQI]).

The study shows significantly reduced HRQoL, as measured by the EQ-5D, among people with PPP compared to those with plaque psoriasis alone. The DLQI was comparable in people with PPP and plaque psoriasis. The results provide a broad insight into the problems experienced by patients with PPP in their daily lives.
