Presenting evidence to strengthen cervical cancer prevention and care in the Dominican Republic
As part of IHE’s work on cancer policy, Andrea Manzano recently visited the Dominican Republic to present IHE’s policy brief on cervical cancer in the country during May 25–29.
The visit provided an important opportunity to share the findings of the brief across several key settings and to engage in discussions on how cervical cancer prevention and care can be strengthened. The policy brief was presented in meetings with UNICEF Dominican Republic, UNFPA, the Senate Health Committee, Dr. José Matos, Viceminister of Quality Assurance at the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance, and Juana Damaris José C., Vice Minister for Violence Prevention at the Ministry of Women’s Affairs.
Andrea also participated in radio and TV interviews, alongside further engagements with media outlets and patient organizations. These discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening HPV vaccination, screening, early diagnosis, and timely access to treatment.
IHE is grateful for the opportunity to contribute evidence to ongoing policy discussions in the Dominican Republic and to engage with stakeholders working to reduce the burden of cervical cancer. Continued collaboration across government, international organizations, health care professionals, civil society, and patient groups will be essential to advancing progress.
